At the last minute, the U.S. has canceled a visit to Taiwan by acting envoy to the U.N. Kelly Craft. Ms. Craft has often been an outspoken advocate of Taiwan. Her advocacy coupled with the fact that this would be the third high ranking U.S. official to visit Taiwan in six months had rankled Beijing. Officially, the stated reason for the cancelled visit was that it was out of deference to the transition process between the Biden and Trump administrations. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also scrapped a planned two-day visit to Europe.
