Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi forcefully pushed back against allegations of an ongoing Chinese-perpetrated genocide in Xinjiang province, claiming that the province enjoyed strong economic and social stability since a cessation of terrorist activity in the region. Wang’s denials come as European powers, notably Great Britain and Germany, and Turkey have voiced concern over Chinese behavior as it relates to the ethnic minority Uighur Muslims. Wang said that China would open the door to the U.N. to investigate but did not offer a timeline of when that would occur.
