Sweden’s telecom regulator PTS has banned telecom companies Huawei and ZTE from participating in its 5G network ahead of a spectrum auction next month, following advice from the country’s armed forces and security service, which describes China as “one of the biggest threats against Sweden.” It joins other European countries such as the UK which have restricted the role of Chinese supplies on security grounds, following diplomatic pressure from Washington.
