Former senior colonel Wang Xiangsui revealed that DF-26B and DF-21D missiles launched in August successfully struck a moving vessel close to the Paracel islands. If true, this would mark a major development in China’s anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) strategy in the South China Sea. One missile was launched from China’s northwestern Qinghai province, while the other was deployed from Zhejiang province in China’s east.
